What is dry needling?
Dry needling is the use of fine sterilised acupuncture needles to help restore tissue health, normal movement patterns and decrease pain.
Dry needling is a gentle technique that will leave you with less of the post-treatment soreness that can be experienced with other manual therapies.
Unlike acupuncture, which is based on oriental medicine and the idea of 'harmonising' energy flow in the body, dry needling is used more directly on the affected tissue.
Dry needling is commonly used in or around areas of tightness in the muscles to restore movement, however it is also very useful in restoring the health to our tissues by influencing the way our nerves work within the area.
Dry needling is a great technique for many musculoskeletal conditions including neck and back pain, tennis elbow and lateral thigh pain, and is beneficial for both acute and chronic conditions.
At Adelaide Physio and Pilates Studio we use our refined musculoskeletal assessment and palpation skills to identify restrictions in movement patterns and changes within the tissue and then base the application of dry needling on the examination findings.
We use dry needling in conjunction with other manual techniques to treat the cause of the problem not just the symptoms.
